Seattle Pacific University’s Mission Statement

Seattle Pacific University is a Christian university fully committed to engaging the culture and changing the world by graduating people of competence and character, becoming people of wisdom, and modeling grace-filled community.

Signature Commitments

We have adopted four signature commitments to guide us as we engage the culture and help to bring about positive change in the world.

Seattle Pacific will be a place that. . .

  • Masters the tools of rigorous learning and is a vibrant intellectual community.

  • Embraces the Christian story, becoming biblically and theologically literate.

  • Understands and engages our multicultural and complex world.

  • Values the centrality of character formation in the life of the individual.

History

Seattle Pacific University was founded by Free Methodist pioneers who valued a non-sectarian approach to education that welcomed all those seeking scholarly excellence rooted in the Christian gospel, and who sought to take the gospel into the world in order to bring about the flourishing of God’s children.

Seattle and Pacific Northwest

Nicknamed the Emerald City, Seattle is a major trade center, popular tourist destination, and gateway to Canada and the Pacific Rim. The city is surrounded by water and mountains, making bridges, ferryboats, and snow-capped peaks a part of everyday life.

Learn more about all that the city and its surroundings have to offer at the SPU website.

The Campus

Located in a quiet north Queen Anne residential neighborhood, Seattle Pacific University's campus borders the Lake Washington Ship Canal and boasts majestic trees, open lawns, beautiful gardens, and views of the Cascade mountains.

Take a video tour of the campus.

Among its outstanding facilities are two cutting-edge science buildings; a four-story library and study center; a restaurant-like dining facility with Northwest noveau décor and made-to-order cuisine; one of the region’s finest small theatres; three coffee shops; five residence halls; and a gem of a gymnasium. Explore the campus our website.

You can also hop on a bus, and within 10 minutes you’re in the middle of downtown Seattle, one of the country’s most vibrant cities.

SPU also owns and operates a wilderness campus and field station on Blakely Island, and a seaside campus/retreat facility on Whidbey Island.
